Places to Visit

  • Lake Vyrnwy

You can boat or paddle board on the lake, rent a bike to ride around it, or if you’re feeling fit, cycle to it! There are short walks (the sculpture trail) or longer ones into the hills around the lake. As well as a beautiful waterfall at the far end of the lake and refreshments. A very beautiful spot.

  • Waterfall

    Pistyll Rhaedar

Britain’s highest single drop waterfall. A great place to visit in winter when the waterfall will be at it’s best. There’s a little tearoom near the carpark. If you want a bit more adventure, there’s a great (slightly challenging) ridge walk

  • Powis Castle

If gardening is your thing, the grounds at Powis Castle are notorious for their beauty. You can head there on foot to make a day of it (it’s roughly 5km on green lanes and back lanes)

  • Montgomery

Montgomery is a beautiful architecturally unspoilt border town. Stunning views from the ruins of Montgomery Castle and heading further up the hill to the War Memorial, you are rewarded with panoramic views to England and Wales. Book into Checkers for a treat lunch.

  • Shrewsbury

A large town perfectly positioned on a river - there are so many brilliant places to eat and drink (The Walrus, Beefy Boys, Plant Kind, C Sons, Shrewsbury Market hall), shops and galleries (Mrs Jones Gallery, Callaghans & Soden) to browse and river activities.
